CPSC 206 -- Structured Programming in C
Spring 2007
Instructor -- Bart Childs
Starting the Semester: Labs will not meet on Tuesday
January 16. The standard times for Wednesday and Thursday
will meet in HRBB 232 as scheduled.
The online information contains a few pdf files and a lot
of template and example files. The structure is that this
information is distributed among several directories.
If you are challenged as far as computer terminology, you
may wish to call directories folders.
There are several directories of great information for you.
The individual files will be in C source, pdf files, plain
text files, and some HTML.
These directories include -- and may not be limited to:
- Course information:
- The syllabus,
day_by_day.07a, etc.
- Information about the C language and the text:
- The file EssentialC is about two dozen pages and is a
summary of C. Other files show the contents of the text. Others
will be added.
- Emacs:
- Emacs is the editor of choice. Some test and quiz questions will
be related to this editor. It is one of the earliest great
contributions of the ``open source'' activities. A zip file
is included which should be copied to your login directory and
expanded. A reference card is also included in PostScript format.
- Examples:
- That is a descriptive title. The contents will change during
the semester. Pay attention to the date of the files because
many will be updated.
- Example exams from the past:
- Some old exams will likely be placed here but do not count on them.
The order of topics has changed!
- Laboratory assignments:
- The laboratory assignments will be placed here. The official
statement of the lab will be in the .pdf file. Some
templates will be in this directory. Reference to Examples
will often be includes in the .pdf file.
- Slides used in classes:
- This is empty at the start but if we want to make teaching aids
available to all, we will usually put them here.
- A work/scratch directory:
- In class we often do something that the class would like to be able
to access without having to copy it. We use this directory.
There are also some files at this level of the directory structure.
- An archive of broadcast messages:
- We will send a significant number of messages to the class. Most
will be sent to the account used to do your work in the labs. Too
many of you will not learn how to use a .forward file.
We will try to keep these messages archived in this file.
- Course staff:
- We intend this to be the complete contact information for the
instructor and TAs.
- Virginia Tech tragedy:
- In support of those hurt or lost in the Virginia Tech tragedy.
