6-Minute Madness
Emailed and Posted on Wednesday, October 3, 2007

Overall, I am excited about the many excellent projects we have in the course! So we all can share in my enthusiasm, we will have a 6-Minute Madness in class on Friday October 12. Each project team will have 6 minutes to share the key ideas, insights, and thrust of their project with the rest of the class. No slides are necessary. Just come prepared to speak for 4 minutes about your project, plus 2 minutes of rapid-fire question and response. We will be operating on a very tight clock, so class will begin promptly at 9:10.

Paper Assignment on Friday!
Posted on Thursday, August 30, 2007

We will assign papers in class on Friday. So make sure you have looked over the list of possible papers before coming to class. The order of selection will be random (e.g., you may pick 1st, 10th, or 19th); when it is your turn to pick, you may pick any of the remaining papers on the list (subject to a few constraints I will discuss in class).

Paper suggestions
Posted on Thursday, August 23, 2007

While I will have the final say over which papers we read in class, I would like to tailor our paper selection to your particular research interests. So feel free to look over some of the recent papers from SIGIR, VLDB, SIGMOD, ICDE, CIKM, ICDCS, IPDPS, WWW, and other conferences relevant to Internet-Scale Data Management. You have until the end of the first week of class (August 31) Thursday, Aug 30 at noon to email me any paper suggestions you may have. I will finalize and publish the final paper list here on September 1. We will assign students to papers in class on Friday, Aug 31.
